Acne scars are difficult to treat and you may have to consult to a professional to see real improvement. Avoid picking or popping or squeezing a pimple, otherwise you will be more likely to get a permanent scar.

Acne can vary from being mild to severe. In severe cases, it can cause painful pus-filled bumps.

Here, are some of the types of scar –

  1. Ice Pick Scars
  2. Boxcar Acne Scars
  3. Rolling Scars
  4. Hypertrophic and Keloid Scars

1. Ice Pick Scars- Ice pick scars are smaller and narrow that point down into the skin’s surface. They can be difficult to get rid off and requires proper treatment. They develop from cyst infection or other deep inflamed blemish which destroys the skin around them causing a long hole in the skin.

2. Boxcar Acne Scars- Boxcar scars is larger than ice pick scars. They resemble as a chickenpox scar. They often develop on lower cheeks, jaw or where skin is relatively thick. They are round or oval depressions with steep vertical sides. It gives your skin an uneven, pitted look.

3. Rolling Scars- Rolling scars have variable depth, curved edges and a more uneven appearance. They can measure up to 5 mm in diameter. It makes your skin look wavy and bumpy. It occurs when collagen tries to close the wound left by the pimple.

4. Hypertrophic and Keloid Scars- They form as raised lumps on the skin as a result of an excess of collagen generated during healing of the previous scar. Hypertrophic scars are same as keloid scars but they are smaller than the acne that caused them. While, keloid scars are bigger than them. They commonly develop on jawline, chest, back and shoulder.
